Facebook grabbing WhatsApp user phone numbers data for better ad target and friend recommendations

Popular chatting social network Whatsapp is handing over the user phone numbers data to its parent company Facebook under reversal of the privacy policy assured earlier. 

Whatsapp new terms and conditions, Facebook collected Whatsapp user mobile numbers having account on Whatsapp to provide more accurate friend recommendations and targeting ads.

Reversal Terms and Policy read as,

Share my Whatsapp account information with Facebook to improve my Facebook ads and products experiences. Your chats and phone number will not be shared onto Facebook regardless of this setting’. 


As per latest information to avoid spam and banner ads from third party has decided to explore to communicate with business that matter to user. It has assured that the messages will stay as end-to-end encrypted and still giving an experience without third party banner ads and spam’, said, BP.


In addition BP added that the new policy and terms will be useful for banks to notify user about possible fraudulent transaction or travel agency to notify about delayed flight information. 


As per MB, if user doesn’t want to accept new Whatsapp reversal terms and policy from sharing data to Facebook they need to ‘Un-check’ the box and press ‘Agree button’ or click on ‘Read More’ link before accepting the policy blindly. 


Whatsapp account who already accepted the new terms and policy within 30 days can visit the Whatsapp settings > Account and Uncheck the box reading as ‘Share my account info’ to stop forwarding your data to Facebook.
